Ponystep 6 launch

Pandemonia and Snowy donned their party gear and headed to the Ponystep 6 issue celebratory bash.

The gig was held at the downstairs bar of Mr. Buckley, 277 Hackney Road.

Richard Mortimer and Pandemonia

Pandemonia & Snowy eased their way down the stairs and were met by the exuberant Editor-in-Chief of Ponystep Richard Mortimer.
Richard gave them a hearty welcome and then dashed off to the bar to fetch P a tipple.

Pandemonia and Eudardo de Mengalhaes

In the interim, Snowy & Pandemonia surveyed the premises, and were set upon by their Brazilian ally Eduardo Jordao de Magalhaes, Head of International Marketing and Communication for Melissa shoes. Eduardo asked them how was Sao Paulo fashion week for them. "We loved it" P replied.

Pandemonia and Felicity Hayward

The next encounter for Pandemonia and Snowy came in the form of plus size curvy model Felicity Hayward. Felicity took an immediate shine to Snowy. Not that S minded Felicity’s gentle touch.

Olivia Hicks and Pandemonia

Pandemonia detected Snowy’s testosterone making him hot under the collar, so P retrieved Snowy from Ms Hayward clutches and headed towards the exit door to cool S down only to be ambushed by two other comely gals, Olivia Hicks and her pal.
Olivia duly gave P her email address and whispered "I work on the door of Ovalspace the Arts/Music club and you both will be on the guest list forever".

Margi Clarke and Pandemonia

Pandemonia, Snowy were flattered and returned to their table, where they rubbed shoulders with actress/TV presenter Margi Clarke. Margi confessed to Pandemonia & Snowy, "the magazine has done me proud love"

As Snowy cuddled up to Margi, in breezed fashion designer Pam Hogg. Pam couldn't resist telling all and sundry "I made a decision to do a fashion show and I've got 4 weeks to pull everything together”.

Pandemonia exhausted by the thought of the mountain of work that awaited Pam, gathered up Snowy, waved goodbye to Daniel Lismore and David Motte grabbed a copy of the magazine and jumped a taxi.

Ponystep Magazine

In the cab Pandemonia leafed through the magazine pages that had articles mostly on blonds; with blond Holly Woodlawn the Andy Warhol superstar, actresses Gillian Anderson in blond wig, bottle blond beauties Margi Clarke and Amanda Lepore, and a black & white picture story of currently blond Kate Moss, Kate didn't need her St Tropez spray tan. All these images caused Pandemonia to recall her own exciting blond moments in life just as the cab pulled up to home.

Total Pandemonia!!

Pandemonia interviewed by Jason Lee of Salon Spotter.

A few weeks ago, we ran a story about 80′s pop stars and a celebrity cartoon inspired guest at the Pam Hogg show for London Fashion Week. This above photo was attached to the story featuring the 7 foot tall post modern plastic and latex pop artist known as simply “Pandemonia”. We instantly became fascinated by her. She’s a statement between pop culture/fine art/celebrity/fashion and of course a great sense of humour. Her genius is that unlike the archetypal socialite blonde she emulates, Pandemonia will never age. Additionally, she is the humanized version of the plasticized world of advertising we live in. We thought it would be a great idea to contact Pandemonia and ask her a few questions about life, love and art! Here’s how our conversation went!!

Paloma faithPandemonia with Paloma Faith: PR Photos

SalonSpotter: Most recently your hair color is a stunning shade of platinum blonde with low lights. It’s so beautiful. We’ve seen you sporting a more golden tone in the past as well as fiery red. What made you decide to go all the way platinum?

Pandemonia: Pam Hogg, the fashion designer (Editors Note: Pam Hogg sports bright yellow hair), always said I was a rivalling her hair. When she invited me to her fashion show I thought, I’d give her a break. I changed my hair colour. I went one better I went platinum blonde. You know I think its working for me.

SalonSpotter: Going Platinum blonde can be harsh on the hair…do you have any beauty tricks for those who are thinking of going super light without damaging their hair?

Pandemonia: Yes it is hard on your roots. I’ve got my own secret recipe for giving my hair that lustrous bounce. In a word its…. Helium. It really gives it that lift and bounce you need.

SalonSpotter: Let’s talk about the style of your hair. You seem to love wearing it with a side swept fringe and flipped at the bottom which is super sexy. Would you ever wear a short bob?

Pandemonia: I’m glad you noticed that. The bob is sexy but I think the fringe is more feminine. I always liked that wind swept look. Its so dynamic, its like the wind of opportunity is blowing through it. Body and movement are things I always build into my hair. It’s all about aspiration. Its important to have things for people to look at.

SalonSpotter: In your opinion, what does a woman’s hair say about her?

Pandemonia: Power! Its an extension of yourself. It’s the first thing people see, its all performance. You know Samson had all his strength in his hair. And It can take years off you.

SalonSpotter: What do you think of celebrity today?

Pandemonia: Celebrity is a machine. Its all about selling product – lifestyle etc.

SalonSpotter: What do you think of plastic surgery?

Pandemonia: Everything’s plastic these days. I simply went the full way. Going totally glossy is the next logical step in perfection. It’s the ultimate packaging! I’ve got that shiny, new you, look.

SalonSpotter: Snowy seems like such a happy dog. Does he love fashion?

Pandemonia: Is Snowy Happy? Of course he is… he’s on Gas! He loves everything especially fashion.

SalonSpotter: Who is the ultimate male counterpart for Pandemonia? Does Pandemonia fall in love?

Pandemonia: I’m always asked this. Who is Pandemonia’s other? Pandemonia is like an open sentence. Free and single I say, but Pandemonia falls in love all too easily so you never know.

SalonSpotter: In 2033, what will Pandemonia be doing?

Pandemonia: No doubt retiring in some Tax haven. Let me see, hot or cold? I could be taking in the Mountain Airs living in a Swiss chalet. Or maybe lounging on a Yacht in Monaco, South of France, sipping the Martinis. What do you think?

SalonSpotter: Sounds amazing!!! Let’s talk the Queen of Pop. Do you have an opinion about Madonna? Is she an iconic female archetype or is she just an ageing pop star? Or both?

Pandemonia: Without doubt Madonna is a cultural icon. Throughout her career Madonna has constantly challenged the public’s perception of herself and the representation of other woman. Her public identity defies male control. She asserts herself as a subject, rather than an object. Madonna is the one that calls the shots.

Few woman have had such a wide ranging influence. She has played a significant role in developing the identity of the modern independent woman.

SalonSpotter: Do you have a dark side?

Pandemonia: I did experiment with going brunette. My hair looked lifeless more chocolate than brunette. I felt deflated so I treated myself by going blonde again. Which goes to show blondes do have more fun.

She met many celebs including Pam Hogg, Hofit Golan, Brian Friedman, and shook hands and exchanged words with Pamela Anderson. Asked afterwards what she said, Pandemonia was reported to reply. “That's just between me and Pamela........ well.... she said, I want one of those”, pointing at Snowy, “and I want to be you!” Snowy looked bemused.

The Film was about the epic journey of Dev Petal trying to get to work; running from machine gun welding traffic warden Charles Dance, he has many adventures encountering Pamela Anderson and Bell Boy Ed Westwick. Shot in High Def on the new Nokia N8 mobile phone, the film had amazing clarity. Could the future of film making now be held in ones palm?

Who is that girl?

Halfway between a doll and a cartoon: who's that journalist in the front row at all the London Fashion shows?

Seated in the front row of all the main shows at London Fashion week, dressed in latex and wearing a doll mask over her face, a showy mane of blond hair and sometimes in the company of a white stuffed dog: everyone's wondering who this journalist really is.

She calls herself Pandemonia and defines herself as a post-modern artist and fashion blogger, with lots of followers on the internet, as well as journalist for the Daily Mail and The Independent. She attends all of the coolest fashion events - openings, runway shows - and recounts her impressions in short posts. Her tribute to fashion?

Re-interpreting designers' suggestions with her eccentric outfits, put together as if she were dressing a modern-day doll: wrapped in an electric blue dress covered with the British flag, or else a long, champagne-colored dress when the occasion calls for a more chic look. She communicates with her fans through Twitter as well -- for the moment she has "only" 150 followers, but we bet that her numbers are about to increase.

Pam Hogg: Valley of the Shaddow of Darkness

Pandemonia

Pandemonia arrives at Pam Hoggs fashion show. Staying blond, she was dressed in her Union Jack latex dress and matching bag.

Siouxsie Sioux opened the show at Victoria House, Bloombsury. The show consisted of ruffs, catsuits and dresses. Strong empowering clothes with geometric and finely tailored lines. Vampish and modern.

Pandemonia particularly liked the gold dress and the one with small pockets on the front.

candidate artist Pandemonia

Pandemonia, if you've not met her before, Pandemonia is a life size blow up doll that actually walks and talks. All 7 feet of this inflatable beauty wears PVC head to toe, better than Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, and all in the name of art. From her blonde plastic locks to her stockings, Pandemonia's plastic facade is, amongst many things an art concept, a disguise and most importantly the key tool she uses to make a statement about popular culture and commercialism as an artist.

Meeting Pandemonia, in a fantastical sense, is not far off the feeling you might get if you ever got the chance to enter a real cartoon world of fairytale kingdom. In an artistic sense it is intended that you are confronted by a parody of popular culture – plastic artificiality up close. “You are all surface and no substance,” she was once told. As As opposed to performance art, Pandemonia is the embodiment of her own art concept (a contemporary for Grayson Perry perhaps), as well as being a mobile advertisement for her own artistic statement: a reflection of a culture obsessed by celebrity and image.

So from whence did she come and when? Pandemonia appeared in London a few years ago and has been frequenting various art viewings, fashion shows and other events, where she will be noticed on the London scene. mixed reviews occur when people come across Pandemonia. “Every body I meet has a firm opinion of what I am and I can tell you, all their opinions are quite different,” she says. At a Damien Hurst private viewing, fashion designer Pam Hogg once remarked, “ At last! Someone is giving me some competition for my yellow hair!” whilst another onlooker commented that she “must be wearing a thin suit.” Now that would be an invention!” Pandemonia exclaims (And a very lucrative one were it to evolve I'm sure), Reflecting a satirical take on commercialism and a “paradox of fame and anonymity”, artist Pandemonia, is a most unforgettable, not to mention ageless sight to behold. Perhaps you think she is making a satirical comment about society obsessed with fame and image, or perhaps you think she is in fact, an ambassador for such a society. Either way, one thing is certain: if you ever get a glimpse of her, she will leave you with a lasting impression.

A fer Q and A's with Pandemonia:

What have been your most successful appearances or experiences?

Getting put into print. And putting Marlboro back in the Independent!

What is difficult about being Pandemonia?

Going through doors

What is your biggest ambition?

I want to do a floating sculpture show over Oxford Street as a temple of commercialism.

What do people say when they get to see the person behind the PVC-ness?

A lot of rumours get circulated about who Pandemonia is. In truth we all live behind masks and identities. Pandemonia is just the embodiment of an ideal. I could be any one.
